Ever since Kia made a bold move to introduce small unconventionally designed car to the markets,2015 Kia Soul EV has been an absolute hit. It received a facelift this year, and with it, got all new electric model which is starting its journey in late 2014 as a 2015 year model.
2015 Kia Soul EV Engine options
This zero-emission all-electric car is powered by a 27 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and 81 kW electric motor that sends 109 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. Charging time takes whole day for a fully depleted battery with standard 120 V output. 240 V cord lowers the time to five hours, while 50-kW-output (CHAdeMo) charger fills 80% of battery in just over half an hour.
Styling – Inside and Outside look
Conventional and EV Soul basically share the same design, but differences are evident at first glance. EV model has more futuristic design with plate instead of a grille. This solution was taken because charging dock found its place under the plate. This boxy little dog house on wheels has contrasting roof and cut-off rear end with big vertical tail-lights and big rear window.
Interior is also different compared to the interiors of standard models. For now, Soul EV is available in blue with white roof and white with turquoise roof and accents. Inside, however, only light and slightly darker gray found their place. There’s a lot of space inside, even though it is a compact city car. Simple oval dashboard has small instrument panel with touch screen display which takes its biggest part for itself. Shifter is neatly positioned below it where you’ll also find two cupholders and small armrest. There’s a total of six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, anti-lock braking, brake assist, electronic stability control and hill-start assist. Rear visibility is slightly awkward, but can be fixed with addition of optional rearview camera.
2015 Kia Soul EV Price details
With its powertrain, Soul EV will be able to give you 92 miles of range and a top speed of 90 miles per hour. Price details aren’t yet disclosed, but in South Korea where it already started selling, it cost $39,400 before a 50% government subsidy. So, expect it to cost somewhere in low to mid twenties region when it arrives to the US’s developed EV markets of California, Oregon, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.
2015 Kia Soul EV is a bold compact car with unconventional, but effective design that battles for the title of the most green car in the World. Just like its conventional siblings with internal combustion engines, it’ll be more spacious and better equipped than previous generation models.
