Volkswagen Jetta is one of the least expensive sedans in the US market. This, however doesn’t stand for a hybrid model that costs much more than entry level conventional models, but with combination of solid design and German engineering, 2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is competitive and affordable nevertheless.
Under the Hood
Hybrid model that was introduced at North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in 2012 is being carried over for third consecutive year. 2015 year model is offered in SE, SEL and SEL Premium trim levels. All of them have the same 1.4L I4 engine and an electric motor which together produce 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Transmission is 7-speed automated manual and offers seamless shifts.
VW Jetta has a nice flowing exterior design with arching roof and slightly pronounced fenders. Its front end has gloss black grille with German manufacturer’s ironmark in the middle.
Design – Interior and Exterior
Trapezoid headlights and open-mouth lower air intake add further to its generic look. Rear end is also something you’ve already seen somewhere (try everywhere) with angular tail-lights and slightly lifted and rounded bumper.
Interior is furbished with quality materials which include two-tone color arrangements of plastic dash and V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces. Jetta is so spacious inside that it is a question of how it is only a compact sedan?! Dashboard itself is of a standard German type when affordable cars are concerned. It offers minimal excursions in luxury department and has busy-looking instrument panel with 5-inch color touch screen display that powers audio controls and navigation.
Climatronic dual-zone automatic climate control with pollen filter and rear passenger ventilation is standard across the lineup and so is keyless access with push-button start. SEL model adds power tilting/sliding sunroof, while top tier comes with Fender’s premium audio system with eight speakers and subwoofer. There’s also abundance of safety feature which, beside standard ones include blind-spot detection, frontal collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive lighting among others.
Jetta hybrid has great fuel economy ratings at 42 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway. These aren’t exactly class-leading numbers, but aren’t bottom-feeding numbers too. Plus, it can be said that Jetta falls in a class of its own.
2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid Price
Base hybrid model SE costs at least $27,645, while prices of SEL and SEL Premium stand at $30,245 and $31,895 respectively.
2015 Volkswagen Jetta, being on its own thanks to its borderline size, can compete with both compact and mid-size sedans. It offers very good fuel efficiency and refinement in both categories and has to be considered as one of the better hybrid cars on the market.
