Volvo’s upper echelon will be richer for one more model next year. 2015 brings new 2015 Volvo XC90 Plug In Hybrid, with a hybrid powertrain, together with new, second generation. This means that XC90 won’t only get a new model, but the mid-size SUV will go through some extensive changes.
The Engine range
Labeled as T8, XC90’s powertrain will actually be supercharged and turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder which will develop 316 hp. Together with couple of electric motors which send power to both axles, Volvo’s new plug-in hybrid will put up around 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque of hybrid net system output. Lithium-ion battery’s specifications weren’t yet disclosed, but it is expected for it to have between 12 and 16 kWh of power, while gearbox will be 8-speed automatic.
Styling – Exterior and Interior
Swedes still keep their new model’s design hidden from us, but they are starting to reveal the pieces of puzzle one by one. Whether they still didn’t finish it, or more probably, whether it’s a part of the marketing plan, they are doing a tremendous job in teasing us. Revised luxury SUV will have a new front with vertical chrome bar grille and new thinner hammer-like headlights. It is clear that new XC90 will have a sinister look thanks to its front end fascia, and rear part of the mid-sizer will also be redesigned, but we’ll have to wait for it, for now.
Interior will be riddled with soft-touch high quality materials and plenty of available features. XC90 will give you the best Sweden has to offer, with full leather seats, plenty of wood grain touches and chrome accents. Floating dashboard has support in completely horizontal center stack which divides cabin in two, while offering an armrest, shifter and storage compartment below the wooden lid. This three-row crossover can accomodate up to seven people and still offers enough of cargo space. Big touch screen display follows the lines of the dash and is positioned under sharp angle.
Rear seat entertainment consists of two 8-inch screens, while 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound system is responsible for audio. Volvo always had a reputation of being one of the safest manufacturers. Thanks to a 360 degree camera and sensors, you’ll get park assist pilot, lane keeping assist, cross traffic alerts, blind spot monitors, and many more safety features including city safety technology which scans the road ahead for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
2015 Volvo XC90 Plug in Hybrid MPG and Price
XC90 will give you 25 miles of all-electric range and Volvo plans to hit 120 mpg of electric fuel economy estimated. Of course, with petrol engine active, these figures will slide to mid thirties, or even low forties. Don’t expect to get one cheaply, though. While base models start from $40,000, plug-in hybrid will most likely start from $55,000.
2015 Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid is a welcome addition to Volvo’s exciting lineup. Thanks to its extremely high power output, it’ll give you a V8 performance from 4-cylinder engine. Luxury and safety options don’t need to be mentioned as everyone knows what Swedes can do. All in all, XC90 is going to be a great, fun-to-drive SUV with great fuel efficiency and feature-rich and luxurious interior.
