Q5 is Audi’s compact entry-level luxury crossover which exists since 2008 and features both conventional and hybrid powertrains. That’s what makes it unique in whole of Audi’s crossover SUV lineup and 2016 Audi Q5 Hybrid will raise the bar even higher with new styling, features and an all-new plug-in version as well.
Under the Hood
Standard hybrid models will feature the same turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine as before and will continue to deliver 245 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Water-cooled, three-phase AC 54 hp electric motor and 266-volt, 72-cell, lithium-ion battery system will continue to send the power to all four wheels over 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Plug-in models will keep the same power outlet, albeit with much bigger battery pack which will allow for much better estimated fuel efficiency.
2016 Audi Q5 Hybrid Styling
Design-wise, Audi’s lineup looks better than ever with huge open-mouth trapezoid grille and angular headlights which make the front end fascia. This trend will continue in 2016 Audi Q5 hybrid which should get even sharper trapezoid headlights and chrome-bound stripy grille instead of the mesh one. New 19, 19.5 and 20-inch wheels should be the main changes in Q5’s profile, while the rear end should receive a new liftgate with sharp tail-lights and revised bumper.
Inside, most of the available features will be carried over, albeit with new design. Materials will once again be of highest quality for entry-level luxury models as 2016 Audi Q5 hybrid will come wrapped up exclusively in leather. Optional nappa leather will be available as well and wood grain or aluminum accents in dash, center stack and door panels will be present too. Besides getting heated front and rear seats, luxury package will add ventilated front seats and Milano leather upholstery for $2,300.
Elegant dashboard comes with a big touch screen display which is responsible for all infotainment purposes including standard MMI navigation, HD and SiriusXM radio, smart device connectivity, and a rearview camera. For all your maps and audio files, Q5 offers dual SD card slots with 32GB operating capacity. Bang & Olufsen sound system with 14 speakers and 505 watts should be enough even for most demanding audio connoisseurs. As of next year, all Audi models will also offer 4G LTE connectivity as standard equipment. Besides all standard safety features and mentioned rearview camera, Q5 also offers blind-spot monitors, front and rear acoustic parking sensors, front thorax side airbags and sideguard, and head curtain airbags.
2016 Audi Q5 Hybrid Price and MPG
Most people would have expected better fuel economy ratings from the hybrid vehicle, but even with 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, Q5 is among the leaders in luxury compact crossover class. Plug-in model shouldn’t get these figures upgraded, but will give you around 30 miles of all-electric range and over 100 mpg estimates in electric fuel efficiency. While base model’s $53,000 starting price probably won’t change, plug-in version should start from around $60,000.
2016 Audi Q5 hybrid is going to be mildly redesigned in order to offer fresh new look, but most of its specs will be carried over, besides a few tech upgrades. However, big news is the all-new plug-in models which should increase Q5’s fuel efficiency and offer more than adequate all-electric range.
