Chevrolet company will offer new small, and at the same time, hybrid vehicle. a new 2016 Chevrolet Spark Hybrid. Smallest car currently marketed by all GM brands has reached its fourth generation and it has to be noted that some shortcomings from outgoing models have been fixed. Even though its name suggests otherwise, Spark was never exclusively hybrid vehicle, but you can still buy it in EV form.
Plug-in version will most likely continue unchanged before top minds in Chevy reach a conclusion on what to do with it. For now, 2016 Chevrolet Spark is exclusively petrol-powered.
2016 Chevrolet Spark Hybrid Specs
New model packs a few horses more compared to its predecessors. New, 1.4L 4-cylinder engine makes 98 horsepower which is improvement of some 17 percent. Transmission is still either 5-speed manual or CVT, and supermini drives the front wheels as before. Carried over EV hybrid model packs 21 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor for a total of 140 horses and impressive 400 lb-ft of torque.
That kind of output lets this small car fly in quiet rhapsody, and it would be a shame if this type of vehicle just vanished from the markets.
Design – Inside and Outside look
2016 Chevrolet Spark’s new styling is more conventional and that’s where it gets most plaudits. Huge headlamps have been replaced by smaller, sharper units, and new lower air intake features trapezoidal look. Midsection is neat and short, and features a few creases here and there. Finally, rear end gets awkward tail-lights and new, upright bumper.
On the other hand, 2016 Chevrolet Spark hybrid EV remains unchanged for now. Its plate cover instead of grill remains intact. That’s one of the reasons why outgoing models didn’t look that handsome as current versions do.
Interior didn’t go through that many changes. Dashboard almost kept its design, while instrument panel has been reversed. Previously, touch screen display used to sit between couple of airvents on the top, and buttons and controls below. New, 7-inch capacitive touch screen is positioned at the top, while controls and seamlessly melted airvents are now below it. Even 4G LTE connectivity and built-in Wi-Fi hot spot are standard from entry-level models. 2016 Chevrolet Spark won’t, however, offer you traditional luxury features in terms of materials.
Everything is still made of plastic and cloth, but everything has become slightly softer as well. This small car starts with 10 standard airbags which is quite a feat for subcompact car. Rearview camera and rear parking-assist are also standard across the board, while lane-departure warning, side blind-spot alert and forward-collision alert are optional.
2016 Chevrolet Spark Hybrid Price
2016 Chevrolet Spark and its hybrid counterpart are quite different in terms of fuel efficiency. Conventional lineup models are supposed to be rated as high as 40 mpg on the highway, while EV models return 119 MPGe and 82 miles of all-electric range (only available range for that matter). Pricing should start from $13,000 or more for conventional models, while EV models cost $25,000.
2016 Chevrolet Spark looks better and better with every passing year. It also performs better and offers more and more features with it. For instance, this year’s safety options can’t be found in much bigger cars, let alone in Spark’s niche. Still, we eagerly await the news about Spark EV plug-in hybrid which still hasn’t been revised.
