2016 Chevrolet Volt Review and Release date

Finally, GM has been launched new electric vehicle, Chevy Volt. Second generation of Chevy’s range extender hybrid has been unveiled at this year’s Detroit Auto Show and sales will commence in second part of the year when 2016 Chevrolet Volt finally hits the streets.

Car has been reworked from bow to stern and now has better executed powertrain capable of returning much better numbers in all categories.

The Engine range and Performance

For starters, new Volt now has slightly larger range extending petrol engine, 1.5L in displacement. This 4-cylinder is capable of delivering 101 horsepower on its own, but it doesn’t work alone. It is tied to couple of electric generators and, together with them, yields 149 hp and 294 lb-ft of torque of total hybrid output. Battery pack is now larger too as 18.4 kWh lithium-ion unit raises capacity by additional 8 percent.

Even though upgraded figures don’t seem to be all that higher, changes still matter as new Volt is expected to be able to travel more than 50 miles on electric power alone which is almost 30 percent more than in outgoing model.

MPG

Apart from offering longer all-electric range, 2016 Chevrolet Volt will offer better fuel economy ratings as well. 41 mpg combined will be the figures with internal-combustion engine turned on, whole 102 mpg are estimated figures with only electric generators and battery powering the car.

Redesign – Changes and Description

2016 Chevrolet Volt has lost its distinctive hybrid design, it seems. Car is still futuristic, but more conventional as well. This new layout represents a fine combination of both modern and conventional which is a fine feat to have. Front end fascia still clings to metallic plates which cover the grille and lower air intake, while headlights are now slimmer than they used to be.

Volt also has an arching roof which makes some problems to taller rear passengers, but luckily, seats are low to the floor which evens things out. Finally, new version of bowtie brand’s range extender carries on with its vertical tailgate which comes with large tail-lights and contrasting stripe that has Chevy’s badge upon it.

Interior

Don’t expect anything special inside as, even though being a $30k-plus car, Volt still represents an affordable option when all-electric range is concerned. Interior can seem a little bit plain and uninspiring, even if you opt for leather seats. Biggest changes can be found in instrument panel which had abandoned its capacitive controls and had reverted to good old-fashioned buttons and knobs. 2016 Chevrolet Volt serves as a Wi-Fi hotspot and has 4G LTE technology built-in.
