One of the fastest cars, new 2016 Koenigsegg Regera coming. Most of ordinary people haven’t even heard of Koenigsegg, but then again, this manufacturers’ cars aren’t even meant for ordinary people. Koenigsegg is a proof that not all Swedish cars have to be boxy wagons, even though Volvo too has evolved in recent years.
2016 Koenigsegg Regera is a 2-door hypercar introduced recently and completely designed by Christian von Koenigsegg. It follows in footsteps of the most powerful cars today like McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari, but offers you some completely new features which we’ll pinpoint now.
2016 Koenigsegg Regera Powertrain options
For starters, supercar has a hybrid powertrain, but one which wasn’t used by any other manufacturer prior to this. Apart from self-explanatory 5.0L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, Regera packs no less than 3 electric motors (couple of 241-hp units and one with 215 horsepower). All these make 1.11 megawatts (1,110 kilowatts) which translates to 1,489 horsepower. If you don’t believe in these figures, wait ’til you see what kind of accelerating figures it boasts.
|Combustion engine power||1.100 HP on 91 octane DIN or 95 octane RON (a bit more on E85)|
|Combustion engine torque||921 LB-FT|
|Electric propulsion||700 HP|
|Electric torque||663 LB-FT|
|Battery pack||9 kWh 620 Volt; flooded liquid cooled|
|Combined Output||Over 1.500 HP|
|Combined Torque||Over 1.475 LB-FT|
2016 Koenigsegg Regera achieves 0 to 250 mph speed in less than 20 seconds, and it doesn’t stop there; its top speed is 280 mph. What’s more, the car achieves all this without a gearbox. Yes, you read it right; Regera comes with a single-speed transmission which lets you enjoy the ride while doing most of the job for you. Some people would still prefer a clutch manual transmission with a nice, chromed shift leaver, but this doesn’t undermine the remarkable achievement of Swedish engineers.
Design – changes and improvements
Now, even though Regera looks otherworldly, there’s nothing to it that we haven’t seen before. However, kudos to Koenigesseg for making all of its chassis in house. Now, aero channels adorn the car from all sides, and frontal fascia is the only thing which looks somewhat regular. This carbon-made car packs a low nose with extremely flared wheel arches that house upswept headlamps.
Regera also packs targa rear with wing spoiler, while bumper features a docking lid straight down its middle. Of course, such an extravagant car requires special side-hinged doors which open upwards.
Interior is different than in previous Koenigsegg’s models. They must have figured that this type of car deserves the ultimate luxury and comfort which is why the cabin is now spacious and furbished with exotic materials. You’d be surprised how many carbon fiber accents there are. Portrait-oriented central display is quite large for a sports car, but that’s just something we are accustomed to see from Swedes. To cut the story short, 2016 Koenigsegg Regera is an extravagant car on the inside, the same as it is from the outside.
2016 Koenigsegg Regera Price and MPG
Its 9.27-kWh, 620-volt battery pack allows the car to drive 22 miles of all-electric range which makes it a plug-in car. This and the charger, of course. Now, if you were as mesmerized by the car as we have been, and plan to adopt it, be ready to procure at least $1,890,000 for it. That’s the price of limited production batch of only 80 cars from a premium, small manufacturer.
2016 Koenigsegg Regera is among the strongest car up to date and clearly deserves the plaudits that have gone its way. However, most of us can only dream about this car, and for plenty of reasons. Its high performance and exorbitant price are large obstacles and aimed to keep inexperienced drivers at bay.
