One more hybrid car coming from Europe, new 2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-In. After redesigning their compact executive C class lineup last year, Mercedes-Benz is now filling in the holes with additional models. One such model will be C350 plug-in hybrid, ready to debut later this year.
2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 plug-in hybrid will offer similar specs and features as its closest sibling C300 sedan, and there won’t be any visual differences between the two either. As you can to see, new Mercedes C3500 is all-new model.
The Engine range – power and MPG
However, C350 hybrid sedan will get a power boost given to it by an 80-horsepower electric motor and 6.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted above the rear axle. Otherwise, hybrid will be moved by the same 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine found in conventional model. However, instead of 241 horses and 273 lb-ft of torque, net hybrid output will read 275 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. As far as performance, this model on electric mode, reaches top speed of 80 mph, but, when uses both of engine, gasoline and electric power, hits max speed of 130 mph. When it uses electric mode only, max speed is limited.
Apart from 20 miles of all-electric range, 2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 plug-in hybrid will also offer rather high fuel economy ratings which should stand above 30 mpg combined when internal-combustion engine is on, and around 80 mpge when only electric motor powers the car.
2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-In Design
As already mentioned, differences between hybrid C class sedan and entry-level conventional one will be minimal. Plug-in hybrid only offers metallic lettering on its overhang and charging deck, hidden away below the right tail-light. Otherwise, it is the same car with Mercedes-Benz’s trademark stripy grille and singular headlights up front, and slightly larger body compared to previous generations, riddled with chrome.
As far as interior goes, 2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 plug-in hybrid features similar refinement as its conventional sibling. There will be plenty of color arrangements to choose from, and apart from wooden or aluminum accents, you’ll be offered a choice between premium cloth or leather seats. Apart from different information in otherwise the same LCD gauge cluster, C350 plug-in offers five distinctive transmission modes: Individual, Sport, Sport+, Comfort and Economy.
These are pretty much self-explanatory and offer either different fuel economy or completely different driving experience. Instrument panel in highest grades is coated in natural wood in meticulous fashion and door panel accents complement it to the best of their abilities. Tablet-like 8.4-inch touch screen display floats above the dash and can be used in cooperation with optional touchpad unit. COMAND infotainment system has been updated and doesn’t lag any more which was the case with outgoing models.
You can even opt for 590-watt, 13-speaker Burmester premium surround sound system which is a part of $2,120 premium package. Needless to say, safety features are as good as always and C350 hybrid comes with pre-safe braking, pedestrian detection system, collision prevention assist, cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist and active parking assist among other features.
2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-In Hybrid Price
It will hardly be available for less than $46,000, but this could be possible. However, it will definitely be more expensive than C300. New C350 Plug-In Hybrid will be available on sale in fall this year. In addition, on European market should be in September this year, of course.
2016 Mercedes-Benz C350 plug-in hybrid is just one of the future cars which are supposed to complete German car maker’s new, more luxurious C class lineup. It should offer better fuel efficiency than any other model in its lineup, but pretty much everything else will remain the same.
