2016 Rinspeed Etos Concept

Rinspeed is well known for making rather interesting cars and they have a history of turning usual cars into something special. A few days ago at CES in Las Vegas, they shown the 2016 Rinspeed Etos Concept, a car meant to showcase the latest technology available on the market. Unlike their previous models, this has been built in cooperation with Harman which handles the interior of the car as well as most of the technology installed in it.

At this moment, the car has no price or release date and considering their previous models, we expect it to be the only one of its kind which would likely push the price to well over $2 million, making it one of their more expensive models.

At its core, the Etos is based on the BMW i8, so it shares the chassis as well as its scissor-like doors which are something very interesting in this day and age. However, unlike the i8 which looks rather futuristic, the Rinspeed comes with all new sheet-metal which is very different from the donor car.

Performance & Specs

While it does look amazing, the most interesting fact about the 2016 Rinspeed Etos Concept has to be the technology involved with it, both inside and out. Unfortunately though, they did not say anything about the engine installed in the car but if we had to guess then we think that it is using the same powertrain as the i8, meaning it remains a plug-in hybrid with little over than 300 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, still more than enough to move this futuristic concept with haste.

2016 Rinspeed Etos Concept – Interior & Exterior

Inside the cabin, the Etos uses all the latest technologies and it has to be one of the most impressive cars at CES. On the dashboard, the car rocks two 21,5 inch LCD screens which can be configured any way the driver or the passenger want. The one on the left, where the driver sits, can display information about the navigation system, the car’s hybrid powertrain and it can even offer a night-vision system which could prove quite useful. The one on the right allows the passenger to browse the internet, watch movies or even use apps to check with its internet friends without any issues.

The steering wheel of the car can be folded in order to allow for the most interesting fact about this model, the autonomous capability. This allows the car to run in a fully autonomous mode which can be controlled via voice commands. Also, the car can not only handle the highway driving but it can also park itself, change the destination at the driver’s input and even search for a suitable dining place. Another great feature of this car is that it is capable to learn how the driver is usually using the car and what type of routs he likes, so the car can even step-in and help the driver during normal driving in order to help it not lose the control of the car or even prevent an accident.

Refined Exterior

The exterior of the 2016 Rinspeed Etos Concept is quite similar to that of the i8 when it comes to the basic shape. However, there are some major differences. The front of the car is using an all new design with the headlights integrated into the front fascia instead of being mounted to the sides. Also, the back is using a similar design and both the front and the back of the car are painted gray which contrasts fantastically well with the yellow color of the exterior. On the back engine cover the Etos sports a small helipad which can be used to land a remote controlled drone that is likely going to be offered with the car.
