The newest model coming, 2016 Suzuki iM-4. The Suzuki Jimny has been present on the market, and since the crossover and SUV market has evolved in recent years, the Japanese company has decided to unveil at this years Geneva Motor Show, an interesting supermini crossover Called iM-4 which features a SHVS mild hybrid system.
The concept was presented together with the iK-2 supermini, both based on a new Suzuki platform. When compared to the Jimny, whose current generation is going to celebrate its 20th birthday in 2018, the Im-4 Concept is a less rugged and more modern-looking, and it comes with 5 doors instead of 3.
With an exterior design that reminds of Kei cars such as the Suzuki Fronte Coupé and the first Cervo model, the new Im-4, if it reaches production with no major changes, could make quite an influence in its class.
2016 Suzuki iM-4 Engine
Based on a new Suzuki platform that is also used in the iK-2 Concept, the small crossover comes with a 1.2 petrol engine that is combined with the mild hybrid system which consists of an integrated starter generator and a small lithium-ion battery pack. It is also equipped with a regenerative braking system which will increase the car’s fuel economy ratings. The upper mentioned 1.2 l Dualjet 4-cylinder petrol engine is equipped with 2 fuel injectors for every cylinder.
The engine can be also found in the Suzuki Swift model, and it is capable of producing 89 hp and 89 lb-ft of torque, so don’t expect the iK4 to have monster-like performances. Thanks to an AWD system, small proportions, and low weight, in off-road driving the iM-4 could be as courageous as the Jimny.
All – new Design – Exterior & Interior
As far as the outside appearance goes, the front end comes as a combination of Kia Soul vibe and Volkswagen Amarok models, but. The retro Kei car look is clearly visible in the design style of the 2016 iM4, with only a few of modern touches separating it from the look of the Japanese micro-car from the 1970s car era. When taking a look at the sides of the vehicle, you can see that they are very angular, while the greenhouse-to-door height ratio is obviously a concept car design, with a not so good all-around visibility.
The engine has a pair of side outlets that slightly remind of the old Vitara, while the blacked out A and B-pillars remind of the Swift’s pillars and create a so-called “floating roof” appearance, especially on a white colored vehicle like the iM-4 Concept that was presented at the car show. The cars back end does a little bit remind of a manga cartoon animal, thanks to a pair of LED powered backlights, and a two more LED strips placed into the bumper.
Suzuki hasn’t revealed any photos or details regarding the 2016 iM-4 Concept’s cabin look, but the expectations are that the production version will probably come equipped with some of the features and probably similar design as the Swift model and the production version of the iK-2 Concept. In other words, nothing luxurious and super high-tech is expected.
2016 Suzuki iK4 Price
As far as the price of the iM-4 goes, assuming that it does reach production, the expectations are that it will have a price of around $20000 for the base model.
