The Model S still is one of the best selling electric cars in the World and certainly the best selling sedan which doesn’t run on petrol. Unlike any other electric car currently on the market, the Model S is the first which managed to offer an incredibly long range, massive performance and a lot of luxury features, all in the same package. In order to be even better, not too long ago they released a new version of the car which also happens to be the best so far.
The 2016 Tesla Model S P90D is not only the most powerful electric car in the World but it is also the most efficient and the fastest.
Just like with the usual Model S, the P90D is based on the same aluminum chassis and it looks pretty much the same as before. Most of the changes are under the skin and to its software which is also the most advanced yet.
Sporty Design – Interior & Exterior
On the exterior, the 2016 Tesla Model S P90D is identical to the P85 or P85D so it comes with the same wheels and tires, the same brakes with red-painted calipers and even the same color options. The only real difference is the badge installed on the boot and the standard air suspension system which makes the car a bit lower at speed in order to be more efficient.
Inside the cabin the car is also identical to the other versions of the Model S, so it has the same 17 inch LCD screen on the center console which controls all of the car’s functions, the same five standard seats and great leather upholstery. However, the 2016 Tesla Model S P90D comes with the sport seats as standard and the rear children seats are also cheaper than on the other versions. Another massive upgrade over the previous versions of the car is Tesla’s all new Autopilot feature. Unlike its competitors, this is able to drive the car all by itself which can be scary at times.
However, it is currently in Beta-testing and even though there are still a fair share of problems with it, many people reported that it is a great feature to have on the highway where the car is able to steer, accelerate and brake as well as change lanes and keep a safe distance from the cars around it, all by itself.
Specs & Performance
Engine wise, the 2016 Tesla Model S P90D comes with dual electric motors, one in the front and one at the back. The total power rating is 691 horsepower and 687 lb-ft of torque which is far more than any other four door sedan. This allows the P90D to get to 60 MPH in 3.1 seconds and get to 155 MPH without any issues. Not too long ago though, Tesla released a software update which unlocked the Ludicrous mode of the car.
This bumped the output of the electric motors to 762 horsepower and an undisclosed amount of torque which is enough to lower the 0 to 60 MPH time to 2.8 seconds while maintaining the same top speed. The battery has also been upgraded to a 90 kWh unit which should provide up to 253 miles of range on normal driving or up to 300 miles of range for those who are able to drive more efficiently.
2016 Tesla Model S P90D Price
This is quite a hard feat to achieve and considering that the car only costs $133,000, it is even more impressive. Unlike with the other manufacturers out there, the Model S can be bought straight from Tesla which also allows them to keep the costs down.
The car is already available for sale but because it is selling so well, the waiting list for a P90D is around six months which is still better than the full year for a lesser version of the car.
