2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid again lead the way, same as its gasoline predecessor that became the first crossover vehicle, hybrid version became the first vehicle of that kind in compact crossover class. Same as its original version hybrid comes with similar styling that is leaning more towards a compact vehicle than towards its SUV roots.
When it comes to powertrain this vehicle doesn’t offer anything to revolutionary, but the sole fact that we are talking about the only compact hybrid in crossover class deserves certain amount of respect.
Design – Inside and Outside look
When it comes to exterior styling this vehicle is no different than the regular RAV4. That means it follows the style that was introduced in 2010 big redesigned when this crossover was striped from its most famous SUV features and became a regular family oriented high stance compact vehicle. Some of the features RAV4 enthusiasts are still crying about are the skid plates and spare tire hanged on the rear bumper.
Spare tire is now placed under the fake trunk bottom and this vehicle old fans will never forgive Toyota this few cubic inches of trunk space, not because the space itself but for the masculinity rear bumper tire brought to this almost funny looking compact crossover.
Interior design also isn’t much different than the one seen in the regular model. Battery didn’t took too much from the interior space so the 2016 Toyota RAV4 hybrid comes with the same interior layout and a few additional USB and electric outlets that are connected directly to this vehicles lithium ion battery. This vehicle is praised for its quality materials, interior layout that gives passenger vast amount of space, especially in the trunk area, and the flat bottom floor that triples the cargo area after folding down the rear seat row.
Under the Hood
Online reviewers are still guessing which powertrain combination is going to be placed in 2016 model of this hybrid crossover. We believe that the new model is going to come with powerful V6 engine, capable of producing at least 300 horsepower which is going to be paired with two electric motors that are going to be placed on the front wheel axle, and a rear axle differential that will secure each wheel gets the same amount of power.
This engine, electric motor and lithium battery combination will be made with the brand new Synergy Drive technology and it will increase full efficiency of this vehicle for at least 40% comparing to the regular RAV4 model. Same as in Toyota Highlander where hybrid version comes with 29 mpg, 10 mpg more than the regular Highlander engine. We can expect similar output of at least 30 mpg in combined highway and city conditions.
|Horsepower @ RPM||194|
|0-60 time||9 sec.|
|Top Speed||125 mph|
2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Price

Current regular model can be bought for $23,680 MSRP, and new hybrid version will cost at east $5,000 more. Release date is also unknown, we don’t even know on which Auto show this vehicle will debut, but since Toyota traditionally brings its best goodies to the late LA Auto show in December that’s where the answer to this question might be. Anyway this vehicle will not get to the showrooms before January, next year.
