Volvo company unveiled new 2016 Volvo XC90 T8. The XC90 has been on the market for a long time and last year Volvo released an all new model which has been on sale ever since the start of 2015. Unlike most of its competitors, this luxury crossover is rather humble in appearance but despite that it still offers everything you would ever want from it. The car is using an all new platform which has been developed from scratch for it and for the S90 sedan and it is not only lighter than before, but also more composed on the road and much safer in the eventuality of a crash.
The 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 is the top end model of the range and as you would expect from such a car, it comes with the most powerful engine available for it as well as a rather subtle design which is preferred by a lot of people. Also, unlike the other models in the range, the T8 is actually a hybrid so it is much more fuel efficient than most other crossovers in this price range.
2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Design – Inside and Outside look
The exterior design of the car is very similar to that of the base model but it does come with a few unique features. Firstly, the usual black side inserts are now color coded to the paint on the car so it looks much cleaner than the base model. Also, the T8 adds larger wheels and high performance instead of low rolling resistance tires as well as a subtle splitter on the front bumper. A future special edition called Polestar will add an all new body kit, a different exhaust system, new lightweight wheels as well as a new color to the car.
Inside the cabin, the 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 offers a very nice contrast when compared to its main rivals. Why? Well, the dashboard is very simple in design and it only has a handful of buttons to press. Instead, Volvo went for a portrait-mounted touch-screen which will control all the usual car’s functions such as the infotainment, navigation and safety features while the touch-sensitive buttons on the bottom of the screen will control the climate control unit.
The materials are really nice considering its price and there are seven standard seats, all big enough to accommodate a full grown adult without any worries.
Under the Hood & Performance
Under the hood of the 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 there is one of the more interesting engines on the market. The car features a 2 liter supercharged and turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine which offers, all by itself, 320 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This is then mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox which has been provided by Aisin. Coming to its aid, the car also features two additional electric motors. One in the front with 46 horsepower and 111 lb-ft of torque and one in the back with 80 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.
This gives it a combined power rating of more than 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque which is more than some V8 powered competitors have. Also, thanks to the fact that it does have a rather large 9.2 kWh battery, the XC90 T8 will easily get more than 20 miles on electricity alone so it has been rated at more than 50 MPG on average, all while being able to get to 60 MPH in just 5.2 seconds and to a limited top speed of 140 MPH.
