2017 Volvo S90 Plug-in Hybrid – premiere

Volvo company launched a new sedan, and the new 2017 Volvo S90 Plug-in Hybrid is a successor of program “twin – engine”. Volvo has stated a while ago that they are looking to refresh all of their models and release a new generation of cars that would be not only fuel efficient but also very powerful. The first in this new line of cars was the XC90 which has been released one year ago and it managed to get a lot of people interested in it thanks to the technology it boasts and its incredible engines.

Well, not too long ago rumors about a new model started to appear and shortly after that, the all new 2017 Volvo S90 Plug-in Hybrid has been leaked on the internet, nearly half a year before its official release.

What’s new for 2017?

It seems that this new full size sedan will replace the aging S80 and it will directly compete with the Audi A6 as well as the BMW 5 Series. Unlike its competitors though, the S90 will be based on the same platform as the XC90 which is a modular platform that has been developed specifically for the two models. It is not only rather lightweight but also easy to make as well as very safe for its passengers.

New Design – Interior & Exterior

Inside the cabin the 2017 Volvo S90 Plug-in Hybrid will be nothing like its direct competitors. Instead going to route of its competitors, Volvo decided to offer their model a rather understated interior which remains just as luxurious as any other executive sedan. The design will mostly be shared with that of the XC90 so we expect a portrait-mounted touch-screen to control its infotainment system as well as touch-sensitive buttons for the climate control unit.

Inside the cabin there will be enough room for up to five adults which will be able to enjoy the leather, aluminum and exposed wood on the door covers and dashboard. The car will actually won’t feature any plastic so it will be better than its competitors here.

Outside view

The exterior on the other hand will be in line with what the XC90 is offering so the car will likely appeal only to a certain kind of people. Sure, it looks great and understated with a clean design, a rather impressive stance and all the technology you would ever want from such a car. As standard it will likely get 20 inch wheels, high performance tires and LED lights all around. A high performance version bearing the Polestar badge would also get a more aggressive body kit, different wheels as well as a new paintwork.

Under the Hood & Performance

Engine wise, the 2017 Volvo S90 Plug-in Hybrid will be using the same powertrain found on the top of the range XC90 T8. This will make use of a 2 liter turbocharged and supercharged inline 4 petrol engine which will develop more than 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This will drive the four wheels via an 8 speed automatic gearbox. The car will also get a small electric motor on the front axle as well as a beefier one in the rear, so the total output for this system will reach little over 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque which is a massive amount and a lot more than its direct competitors.

This will allow the car to get to 60 MPH in around 5.5 seconds and up to a limited top speed of 155 MPH. The best part is that it will also boast a 9.2 kWh battery pack that will offer a range of up to 35 miles which is great for city driving.
